Fire Prevention Week
It's Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Every Second Counts: Plans 2 Ways Out" and reinforces why everyone needs to have an escape plan. PreK, K, 1/2 library classes have been able to check out our firefighter gear that Firefighter Pete has let us borrow to display. We've read "Fire Trucks," a short, informational text about what firefighters do, and a fictional text called "The Gingerbread Man Loose on the Firetruck." My first and second grade students made a list of things we knew prior to reading about what firefighters "are," "can," and "have." Some of my favorite responses were, "Firefighters are our friends. Firefighters can help put out fires. And firefighters have trucks that have ladders, hoses, and gear." Great prior knowledge! Our friend, firefighter Pete, will be visiting classrooms this week.
