Giraffes CAN Dance

Students in our PreK class began by reading Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae. The story is about Gerald, a giraffe who wants nothing more than to dance as well as his animal friends at the annual Jungle Dance. With help from an unlikely friend, he learns that "everyone can dance if they find music that they love." We also watched this video on giraffes and talked about the importance of their long necks, legs, and tongue. A giraffe can use it's long tongue to reach leaves off trees, just like we use our arms and hands. For our activity, we traced our hands to make the legs and tail of a giraffe, added it's long neck and finally added it's spots. Just like a snowflake, no two giraffes have the same spots.
