Welcome Back! Let's SAVE SAM!

It's been a busy first two weeks of school, and almost every class has been able to visit the library at least once. Kindergarten will be visiting for the first time on Monday, and I'm excited to see some familiar faces and meet a few new students, as well.

The first days of Library Media handed students a few different STEM and collaboration challenges. Our intermediate students and my sixth and second grade math students were given the task to "Save Sam."

Sam was a gummy worm who had gone for a boat ride but forgot to wear his life jacket when unfortunately, his boat capsized! Thankfully, he was able to scramble up to the top of the boat, but his "life saver" was trapped underneath. It was the students job to help save this poor worm, who couldn't swim, but there was just one rule ... they couldn't use their hands to touch any of the materials other than the paperclips provided, or Sam's oars.

Students had to communicate, collaborate, think critically, and be creative to complete the task. These 4 C's will be our focus for Library Media this year, and students will be asked to explain their reasoning for each of these skills as they complete tasks and challenges.
