I Can ... Be an Illustrator!

This week in Primary and Intermediate Library, we read Aaron Slater, Illustrator - Andrea Beaty's latest book in the Questioneers series. We learned that the main character, Aaron, has dyslexia and has difficulty reading. Although he loves reading and writing more than anything, it is challenging for him and he struggles much more than his classmates. When he is given an assignment to write a story, Aaron cannot write a single word. With the help from his teacher, Miss Greer, and his imagination, dreams and creative heart, inspiration finally strikes and Aaron realizes that sometimes we just need to communicate to others in different ways. 

To review after vacation, we discussed the parts of a book as well as the role of an author and an illustrator. Students were then given a blank book to illustrate and create their own.
